Follow the lead of close to three million visitors who put Cairns on their travel list each year, and head to North Queensland’s capital of adventure.

From the world’s oldest rainforest to a World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef – you’ll want to ensure you’ve got enough time to see it all.

How to get there

With Qantas, Virgin Australia and Alliance Airlines servicing flights to Cairns, travel by air to enjoy more time on the ground. While Qantas and Virgin Australia operate daily flights from Brisbane to Cairns, you can also fly direct from Sunshine Coast Airport with Alliance Airlines, three days a week.

If you’ve got a bit of extra time up your sleeve to tackle a road trip of 1,600-kilometre proportions, pack the caravan or camper trailer and navigate the Bruce Highway north to this tropical destination.

Where to stay

Set up base camp at BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Cairns Coconut, located 13 kilometres from Cairns Airport and a short seven kilometres from Cairns’ CBD.

If you’ve chosen a fly-and-drive holiday option, check in to a Superior Villa for your tropical getaway. Perfect for groups of friends or families, these two-bedroom villas can accommodate up to six people and offer all the amenities to make you feel at home.

While there are plenty of attractions to keep you busy exploring the region, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy within the 28 acres of the holiday park grounds when you need a rest day. Keep the kids occupied at the splash park and swimming pool (complete with waterslides) while you relax poolside, or see who has the best-putting skills as you work your way around the onsite 18-course mini-golf course.

Complete with an onsite restaurant serving takeaway meals, including light breakfast and snacks in the morning and a full menu for lunch and dinner daily from 12 pm to 8 pm, let someone else do the cooking during your stay – you’re on holiday, after all.

What to do

Did you know there are over 300,000 square kilometres of reef and 12,000 square kilometres of lush rainforest to explore in Tropical North Queensland?

As one of Australia’s top dive spots – book a reef tour departing from Cairns Marlin Marina for a chance to snorkel, scuba or explore semi-submersible Australia’s largest fish tank.

With 1625 types of fish and 600 types of corals to discover, this is one excursion you’ll want to book ahead. From an underwater adventure to exploring the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, there’s no better way to see why they call it the Wet Tropics than a visit to Barron Falls.

Just over 30 kilometres from Cairns CBD, explore the Barron Gorge National Park’s main attraction. Step it out along the one-kilometre Barron Falls lookout track, winding through the open eucalypt forest before breaking out to a lookout over the thunderous Barron Falls.

Barron Falls

Expect to be enveloped in a cloud of mist if visiting in the wet season, as floodwaters overrun the cascading waterfall. While the reef and rainforest are Cairns’ two major attractions, there are plenty more things to enjoy about this North Queensland hot spot – whether it be a walk along The Esplanade, sunset over the Coral Sea or wander through Flecker Botanical Gardens.

What else will surprise you?

Avid golfers – this one is for you. With the Cairns Golf Club, less than a kilometre walk from the holiday park, make sure you allow an extra day to tee off at this 18-hole championship course.

If golf isn’t how you like to relax, take your relaxation up a notch and book a massage from the comfort of the holiday park. Offering a massage service from a restored combi van located on the property – you won’t have to travel far back to the comfort of your villa once all the knots and kinks have melted away.
