We all love holidays, but do you ever wish you had more time for them? What if we told you that with clever planning, you could stretch your 20 days of annual leave entitlement to a massive 51 days. How? By booking your holidays to coincide with national and state public holidays. The idea is not a new one though, so it pays to plan ahead and book well in advance, as these are the periods that are most likely to book out quickly.
If you want to maximise your annual leave, here are the holiday periods to look out for:
Australia Day
Take advantage of the warm summer weather and unwind after the festive season by booking a holiday from 21-29 January. Not only will you be able to celebrate the great Australian outdoor lifestyle, you’ll also get a relaxing nine-day holiday while using only four annual leave days.

Easter
Say goodbye to summer and enjoy an Easter egg hunt round your campsite with a fabulous Easter escape. Book from 1-11 April and for just four annual leave days you’ll enjoy a whopping 10-day break! Now, that’s a saving that would get the Easter bunny hopping online to make a booking.

ANZAC Day
With ANZAC Day falling on a Tuesday in 2023, take advantage of the weekends either side and book the Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in between for another nine-break (22-30 April). That brings us to almost a month’s worth of holiday days in the first four months of the year, and only 12 annual leave days down.

King’s Birthday
If you’re finding all your favourite spots are already booked out, it’s time to get creative and take advantage of the fact that state public holidays don’t always fall at the same time. As the weather cools down south, the King’s birthday is the perfect excuse to venture north to the warmer climes of Queensland, where they celebrate this public holiday on a different day. Using another four annual leave days, enjoy a nine-day getaway on the aptly named Sunshine Coast from 10-18 June.

Labour Day
Another great example is using Labour Day in NSW, ACT and South Australia as an excuse to use one leave day for a cheeky four-day weekend break (29 September to 2 October) in Victoria where the holiday falls in March, and vice versa (10-13 March).

Christmas & New Year
Saving the best till last, use your last three days of leave to enjoy a well-deserved 10-day festive break over Christmas and New Year (23 December to 2 January).

Holiday days enjoyed = 10
And that’s how you turn 20 days of annual leave entitlement into 51 days of fun. What are you waiting for? With Ingenia Holiday parks all along Australia’s East Coast, you’ve got endless options to choose from.
